The Firehouse Center for the Arts is a 195-seat intimate theater located in Market Square on the waterfront of beautiful downtown historical Newburyport. This vibrant cultural center offers national, regional and local live performances at affordable prices. We believe the Firehouse is one of the best assets our community has to offer!
1991 heralded the Gala Opening of the Firehouse Center. Over the past twenty years, the Firehouse Center has been a hallmark of local culture and arts, drawing patrons from the local communities as well as a large tourist crowd in the spring, summer and fall. Programming is broad-based, and includes dance, music, theater, an art gallery, and a school show series.
The mission of the Firehouse (Society for the Development of Arts and Humanities) is to advance the arts and humanities in the Greater Newburyport region by:
- fostering the growth and development of the individual artists and cultural organizations through its programs and services
- stimulating understanding of and participation in the arts and humanities, and
- presenting, sponsoring and producing a broad range of cultural, educational and artistic programs.
